1,400 police personnel for Thirunallar temple festival  Sep 9, 09
 
KARAIKAL: In view of the forthcoming sanipeyarchi festival at Thirunallar temple on September 26th, a preliminary meeting to take stock of the administrative requirements for the smooth conduct of the event was held here at the Kamarajar Administrative premises on Tuesday.

The meeting presided over by the District Collector, N.Vasanthakumar ascertained the requirements and logistics that would have to be worked to facilitate the stay of pilgrims visiting Thirunallar.

The Thirunallar Commune Panchayat has been directed to set up temporary toilets in areas around Nalankulam, Brahma Theertham, Saraswathi Theertham and additional sanitation workers are proposed to be deployed. Public Works Department has been directed to clear up the roads leading to the temple and provide facilities for drinking water.

Additionally, medical aid centers will be set up around these areas and precautionary measures will be taken to tackle the threat of swine flu.

Additional personnel will be inducted for fire service operations. Catamarans and swimmers for rescue operations will be deployed. About 32 surveillance cameras will be employed around the temple area. About 1400 police personnel are proposed to be deployed with an increased strength of women personnel.

Similarly, Karaikal bus stand is set for massive sanitation drive and the district administration has requested for special bus services from Trichy, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Mumbai till Nagore.
