Sankara Ratna Award to veteran director SP.Muthuraman.  Oct 30, 11
 
 
The contribution of director Sp.Muthuraman in promoting the cause of eye donation was highlighted by speakers at a function organised on Saturday to present the Sankara Ratna Award, instituted by the Sankara Nethralaya, to the veteran film personality.

He is the seventh person to receive the award, which recognises and honours an individual or an institution that has supported and contributed to Sankara Nethralaya's cause and philosophy.

The speakers recalled Mr. Muthuraman's hard work and humility and how he rose to position of eminence in the film industry from a humble beginning as an Editing Assistant at the AVM Studios.

Former Minister and film producer Rm.Veerappan, who presided, lauded Mr.Muthuraman as a great human being who rendered immense service to the society. .

Actor Rajnikanth, who has acted in 25 films under the directorship of Mr. Muthuraman, said he had acted in so many movies under him not because he could manage to present successful ones but because of the “camaraderie and the affection” showered on all the co-workers and artistes by Mr.Muthuraman.

K.Balachander, eminent film director and Dadha Saheb Phalke Award recipient, described Mr.Muthuraman as a man of “modesty and integrity”.

Producer A.V.M.Saravanan, whose father A.V.Meyyappa Chettiar gave Mr.Muthuraman his first job in the film industry, recalled his association with him for the past several decades and his dedication to what he had undertaken.

Film directors V.C.Guhanthan and A.L.Thirulogachander, script writers Panchu Arunachalam and Visu, actress Khushboo, music director M.S.Viswanathan and writer Sivasankari spoke on their association with Mr.Muthuraman.

In his acceptance speech, Mr.Muthuraman appealed to the people to donate eyes which could light up the lives of their unfortunate brethren.

He also commended the yeoman service of Sankara Nethralaya and its chairman emeritus S.S.Badrinath to the humanity.
